Cell phones use while in flight

September 03, 2009. 12:38

On September 1, 2009 the rule against the use of cell phones aboard Mexican flights was eliminated by the Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT).

The announcement mentioned that the advances in technology have diminished the risk posed by cell phones to airplane equipment. The rule was in force since December 2001, but from now on each airline will have the faculty to determine whether the passengers make use or not of their cell phones while in flight.

Aeromexico already announced that the use of cell phones will be permitted exclusively until the airplane doors are open before take-off. When landing, the use will be acceptable as long as the airplane has left the landing strip.

Still, the flight crew will have the faculty of restricting its use if the airplane equipment experiences any type of interference.
